Job Seeker FAQs

Does it cost money to receive a job through LRO Staffing?

If a job seeker receives a new opportunity through LRO Staffing, it is at no cost to them. LRO Staffing partners with organizations (clients) that engage us for our recruitment expertise, and they are the ones that pay for our services.

Further to that, whether you’re being considered for a temporary assignment, a contract role, or a permanent opportunity, there are no fees or deductions applied to your compensation.

Who are your clients?

We work with all levels of Government as well as private sector organizations on opportunities in Finance & Accounting, Technology, Corporate Services & Administration, Human Resources, Communications & Marketing, Legal, and Construction & Development.

Do you offer interview/resume counselling to job seekers?

We provide support with resume and interview preparation for candidates whose qualifications and experience align with the roles we specialize in. If we determine there is a potential match with one of our opportunities, we are happy to assist you with tailoring your resume and preparing for the interview process specific to that role.

Our website also contains multiple resources designed to help job seekers with resume writing, preparing for interviews and applying to jobs. You can visit our Resources page or follow us on our social media channels to stay informed about our educational content.

How long will it take to find a job?

It depends on multiple factors such as timing, the current job market, and your unique background. In some cases, we’ve met with candidates and had an opportunity for them within a week. In others, it has taken several months (or longer) before the right opportunity arose.

Many of our clients are looking for candidates with very specific qualifications – whether that’s industry experience, education, or technical skills – which can add time to the process depending on how closely your background aligns with those needs. We will be sure to reach out when we receive a role that we believe is a great match!

While we strive to place every candidate we meet, you may also secure employment through other means. We invite you to re-engage with us at any time throughout your career, should you feel ready for your next position.

Will I be working for your agency or directly with the employer?

If you are placed in a full-time permanent position with a client of ours, you would work directly with the employer – similar to if you were to have secured the opportunity independently of us.

If you are placed in a contract position, you are assigned to the business of the organization for which you will be fulfilling work, but LRO Staffing is your employer. We are therefore responsible for all related employer costs, including holidays and vacations.

Do I get benefits on a contract role?

If you receive a contract position through LRO Staffing, it does not include health or dental benefits. This is standard for most contract roles, as contractors are not considered permanent employees.

Will you send my resume to employers without my permission?

Our team at LRO Staffing prides itself on its transparency and professionalism and will never put forth your resume to an employer/client of ours without your permission. If we receive an opportunity that aligns with your qualifications and experience, we will contact you with the full details and request confirmation that you wish for us to submit your resume.

Can I apply to more than one position on your website at a time?

Absolutely. Please feel free to apply to any opportunities on our website that align with your existing qualifications and experience. If you have already interviewed with a recruitment consultant at LRO Staffing and see a new opportunity on our website that catches your eye, feel free to reach out to your existing point of contact directly.

How often should I check in with you?

You may check in with us as much or as little as you like! Although you can rest assured that if we have met with you, we will be in contact with you if/when we have a suitable opportunity that aligns with your professional qualifications and experience. When meeting with candidates, and if we have submitted your resume with a client of ours, we do our best to communicate a reasonable timeline with you on when you can expect to hear next steps.

I have applied to multiple positions on your website and have not received a response. Why is that?

LRO Staffing is a service provided to organizations that reach out to us for our recruitment expertise. We post our open jobs, carefully review resumes, and contact those for next steps whose qualifications most closely match what our clients are looking for. As a result, not every job applicant is contacted for an interview.

Client FAQs

Do you work on contract and permanent placements?

Absolutely. Our team of tenured recruitment professionals are well well-versed in the intricacies of contract, permanent, term, and contract-to-permanent placements and we have the tools and infrastructure in place to do so.

What does your candidate screening process look like?

Our screening process combines structured interviews and skills assessments to gain an understanding of each candidate’s unique employment experiences, strengths, motivations and career goals. Whether we’re recruiting for a permanent or contract position, short- or long-term, every candidate we represent has been thoroughly assessed for the specific opportunity at hand, as well as for future potential opportunities.

It is during these discussions that we take the time to ensure alignment with the role’s requirements and duties, as well as the work environment and company culture.

Do you conduct reference checks?

Yes. References are an important part of our overall screening process and are invaluable in both validating work experience as well as assisting us in determining the right position for the candidates that we work with. We use a formal list of questions but are more than happy to work with hiring managers directly should they have specific topics they would like covered.

Do you conduct background checks or security clearances?

Our team is very diligent about ensuring a good candidate fit and verifying credentials. During our screening process, we identify what type of certifications the resource currently has and evaluate accordingly. When requested by a client, we work with a third-party partner organization that specializes in conducting pre-employment background/educational checks.

Additionally, we are authorized by the Department of Public Works & Government Services to conduct security clearances when required and have experience guiding both candidates and clients through that process. We even have a partnership with a digital fingerprinting service (Digitalex) where candidates can securely complete their digital fingerprints from locations in Ottawa and Gatineau.

If we want to hire a contract employee on a permanent basis, can we do that?

Certainly. If you wish to directly hire an LRO Staffing Contractor within six months of the original start date, this is called a ‘conversion’ and we would be pleased to discuss this option, and corresponding fees, with you.

How long does it typically take to fill a position?

LRO is committed to urgency and prompt action while keeping a quality > quantity approach to recruitment at the forefront. Upon receiving a requirement, our Account Representative will work with you strategically to create a hiring timeline that is transparent and agreed upon by both parties.

What are your fees?

LRO undertakes searches on a contingency basis, which means there is no fee unless you hire one of our candidates. The fees for our services will be confirmed during the initial consultation between you and one of our team members. It is based on the description of the position, the complexity of the job, the salary requirements of each candidate and your budget. All of our placements are fully guaranteed.

Should your organization be looking to undergo a retained or executive search, our team has experience with this and would be happy to discuss options with you.

What happens if the candidate doesn’t work out?

All of our placements are fully guaranteed. While every situation is unique, if a candidate does not work out, we’re happy to assist you in finding another suitable match at no additional charge, within a pre-determined guarantee period.

What does the job market look like? What kind of talent is out there?

The overall job market is continually changing and varies from industry to industry. This is one of the reasons we have multiple divisions with tenured recruitment consultants that are highly specialized in their respective fields. We pride ourselves on being able to counsel you on current talent availability, market trends, and competitive compensation expectations.

In addition, we regularly publish educational content (Blogs, Videos, Salary Guides, etc.) that highlights current job market trends. We welcome you to follow us on social media or contact us today.
